“Recruitment is probably one of the most daunting functions, yet has such a profound impact on any business and lives of so many people and their families.”
The recruitment environment in South Africa is extremely tough! As an employer, you are probably inundated with applications and find it very competitive in acquiring specialist skills. Your recruitment team might also feel that they are capable of adding more value than purely conducting mundane tasks.
At the same time, being an applicant is also tough! I recently spoke to a very senior CEO who has been retrenched and now experiences the same fate of so many applicants. There is a feeling of despair when over 1000+ applicants apply for the same position ad when you don’t know how the company would get to see your potential just based on a CV. Not receiving feedback on your application is nothing strange, whether you are a CEO or an entry-level candidate desperately seeking a job opportunity.
Recruitment is probably one of the most daunting functions, yet has such a profound impact on any business and lives of so many people and their families.
It is humanly impossible to give all candidates an opportunity to interview. But…..
- What if we could at least give MORE candidates the opportunity to be seen? To have a chance to interview, without increasing our cost or capacity?
- What if we could fill positions up to 6x faster and increase the quality of candidates that we bring into our environment?
Video technology makes this all possible! And, I am not referring to video interviews via Skype or similar platforms. I am referring to solutions which automate first interviews whilst collecting video data.
Face to face interviews is and will always be necessary as it brings the human touch and personal experience which is crucial in any people function. At the same time, technology can assist you to reach more candidates, more quickly, giving you rich information to help you decide with whom to invest your face time.
The impact of this change is significant and can practically be measured and presented in a business case.
One of my favorite sayings is:
“If you do what you’ve done, you’ll get what you got”- Henry Ford
So, I challenge you today:
Be curious. Open your mind. Remain relevant. Explore technology options which profoundly impacts the value of your recruitment team, your business brand, and your candidate experience!
